District Profile

Zapata County Independent School District (ZCISD) serves the South Texas county of Zapata. The District operates 6 campuses. ZCISD has one high school, one middle school, 4 elementary schools, and one Alternative Education Program. ZCISD enrolled approximately 3,549 students for the 2019-2020 School Year. Our diverse student population is made up of 99% Hispanic Students, 86% Economically Disadvantaged Students, and 30% English Learners (ELs).

 

Zapata County Independent School District’s vision is committed to inspire and develop learners to become the leaders of tomorrow. The District’s mission is to provide learning experiences and leadership opportunities to ensure a culture of excellence for all. 

 

ZCISD offers a broad range of courses in the area of advanced academics.  In addition to Advanced Placement classes, students have access to a dual enrollment program that allows them to take college classes in high school and earn credits for both high school and college. The District also administers the Zapata County Technical and Advanced Education Center (ZCTAEC) which coordinates with entities of higher education, business, and industry in efforts to provide educational and training services to the people of Zapata County in a manner that responds to the needs of the community.

 

The District excels in various UIL Academic and Athletic arenas, including a 4A State Winning One Act Play Program, District Champion Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, Football, Tennis, Golf and Cross Country teams and award winning mariachi, concert, and marching bands.

 

In 2017, Zapata County ISD commissioned the development of a strategic plan to provide the district with a clear direction and means of navigating the District’s course for its future. Based on contributions from district and campus level administrators, this document confirms Zapata County ISD’s values and focuses its goals over the next three years. Successful implementation of this plan will maximize opportunities for students across the District and map the future of our schools.
