Update In Special Education / Actualizaciones en Educacion Especial

Beginning with the 2017 school year, the Texas Education
Agency (TEA) changed the way it reports special education
enrollment in school systems. TEA no longer includes a target
for a school system’s total numbers of students in special
education as part of state monitoring.
A partir del año escolar 2017, la Agencia de Educación de Texas
(TEA, por sus siglas en inglés) cambió la forma en que informa la
inscripción a la educación especial en sistemas escolares. La TEA
ya no incluye un objetivo para el número total de estudiantes en
educación especial del sistema escolar como parte de la
supervisión del estado.

IRS Certifies ZHS students as Tax Preparers

Zapata High School Students were trained by an IRS agent this past semester to become tax preparer volunteers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This is a new initiative that began this year with the enthusiastic support and guidance of ZHS Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher, Mrs. Celina Canales. The students and teacher attended an intensive training by the IRS division and took an exam to become certified tax preparers. They are inviting the public to take advantage of the new free service offered on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Jan. 27, 2020 from 4:30-6:30 pm. Location will be at Zapata High School-Room 163.

Zapata graduate visits with Health Science students

Dr. Ninfa Y. Galvan visited with Health Science Clinical and Principles of Health Science students. She is a 2011 graduate of Zapata High School and is now working at our local Gateway Clinic. She provided our students with useful information such as educational requirements, available scholarships, schools that offer dental programs and was also able to answer questions from the students.
