IRS Certifies ZHS students as Tax Preparers

Zapata High School Students were trained by an IRS agent this past semester to become tax preparer volunteers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This is a new initiative that began this year with the enthusiastic support and guidance of ZHS Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher, Mrs. Celina Canales. The students and teacher attended an intensive training by the IRS division and took an exam to become certified tax preparers. They are inviting the public to take advantage of the new free service offered on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Jan. 27, 2020 from 4:30-6:30 pm. Location will be at Zapata High School-Room 163.

Zapata graduate visits with Health Science students

Dr. Ninfa Y. Galvan visited with Health Science Clinical and Principles of Health Science students. She is a 2011 graduate of Zapata High School and is now working at our local Gateway Clinic. She provided our students with useful information such as educational requirements, available scholarships, schools that offer dental programs and was also able to answer questions from the students.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

What is considered as "Uniform" shirt?
A uniform shirt is a basic polo style collared shirt solid in color. Allowable colors are Maroon, Gold, and Black.

Are spirit shirts allowed everyday?
No. Hawk spirit shirts are allowed only on Fridays and may only be Maroon, Gold or Black.

Can students wear a college shirt on Wednesdays?
Yes. Wednesday are designated as "College Day".

Are hoodies allowed?
Yes. Coats, hoodies, and jackets are allowed however, they must be solid maroon, gold, black or grey. Logos or trademarks must not be larger than 4 inches.

Parents and students are encouraged to visit their respective campus to speak to an administrator for further clarification. The District will also be hosting its 6th annual back to school kick off, where among many other topics, the Dress code will be covered.

Important Notice

Attention 7th-12th graders: Physicals for boys and girls will be given on May 23rd at 8:30 am at ZHS Gym. All students from incoming 7th graders to seniors who wish to participate in sports must have a physical.

ZMS students can be dropped off at ZHS that morning and will be transported back to ZMS by bus when they are done.

Physicals are $25.00, and forms can be picked up with Coach Soto at ZMS GYM.
