Superintendent's Message

Greetings Hawk Family,

I am excited to have been named your new superintendent and am grateful for the opportunity to join the Zapata County ISD family. As an educator, being a superintendent in my hometown has always been a dream of mine and I can’t wait to meet all the students, families, teachers and staff.  The reputation of ZCISD is one of hardworking, dedicated and proud teachers and staff members, all of whom go above and beyond to support each and every student. There is a lot that goes into having HAWK PRIDE, and I look forward to helping lead the way.

Safety and Security

Safety and security is on the minds of every staff member in ZCISD as well as the families we serve in our community. Our district regularly practices, reviews and  updates emergency procedures throughout the school year. This year we have begun an extensive audit on all facilities, processes and procedures designed to ensure the safety of our students and staff members.  All of our campuses have a police department and at least one security officer as part of establishing police presence in ZCISD. Our police and security officers work alongside our campus administrators to ensure that all exterior doors remain locked throughout the instructional day. Parents and community members will notice an increase in police presence on or near our campuses the first couple of weeks of school as ZCISD collaborates with local law enforcement agencies to review and practice some of our emergency procedures. ZCISD has established a district wide safety team that will be meeting regularly for professional development, active shooter training and threat assessments as well as reviewing and updating district procedures.

Teaching and Learning

As we look forward to the 2022-2023 school year, know that everyone at Zapata County Independent School District is focused on how to best provide for our students and families. I want to thank all of our administrators, teachers and staff members for their commitment to the students of ZCISD. Teachers have spent hours in professional development in order to be prepared to deliver highly effective instructional strategies, a robust curriculum and innovative technology into their classrooms. Central office administrators and staff members will continue to support teaching and learning in the pursuit of a shared vision of creating a learning environment that is safe, open and nurturing for all of our students.

Community Engagement

We are so excited to see our students and help them reconnect with friends, teachers, coaches, counselors and other support staff members. Students are the reason we do what we do! We are committed to empowering you with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue their dreams and aspirations.

I also thank families and community members for their involvement in our children’s lives. Your commitment to your children’s education is critical as we work to provide an outstanding educational experience for each one of our students. I look forward to our continued partnership for the upcoming school year!

Best Regards,
