Zapata, Texas is located at the intersection of US State Hwy 83 and State Hwy 16, along the Rio Grande River in the southern tip of Texas. Zapata County is also Home of Falcon Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Texas-voted Best Bass Lake in the Nation in 2013.

ZCISD uses its own instructor-written curriculum that was created in 2014 by a team of its own teachers. It continues to be refined and adapted to promote high achievement.

ZCISD also offers a newly redesigned  iSucceed: Learn Anytime, Anywhere iPad Initiative that provides students from 5th through 12th grade an iPad. In January 2015, ZCISD School Board of Trustees approved 1st through 4th grade students to be included in iSucceed

ZCISD schools also offer a broad range of Advanced Placement classes. Students have access to the popular dual enrollment program that allows them to take college classes in high school and earn credits for both. The District administers the Zapata County Technical and Advanced Education Center (ZCTAEC) which coordinates with entities of higher education, business and industry in efforts to provide educational and training services to the people of Zapata County in a manner that responds to the needs of the community.

Zapata County Independent School District’s vision is committed to inspire and develop learners to become the leaders of tomorrow. The District’s mission is to provide learning experiences and leadership opportunities to ensure a culture of excellence for all.
