Health Screening and Preventive Hygiene Practices

Daily COVID-19 Daily Self Screening Guide

All parents, students, staff, and visitors will be required to self-screen daily before entering any Zapata County ISD facility.

  • Employees shall conduct self-screens before arriving to work daily.
  • Employees who have COVID-19 symptoms (as listed in this document) or are lab-confirmed with COVID-19, or have been exposed to a COVID-19 lab-confirmed individual should not report to work.
  • Parents/Guardians can help by keeping children who are sick at home.
  • Parents/guardians shall conduct the student's self-screen before the student boards a District transportation vehicle or arrives on campus each day.
  • Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school if the child has COVID-19 symptoms (as listed in this document) or is lab-confirmed with COVID-19, and should instead opt to receive remote instruction until conditions for re-entry are met.

Social Distancing: All individuals should keep a six-foot minimum distance from others when feasible. The number of persons having access to a building will be monitored throughout the day to alleviate overcrowding.

Face-Covering/Masks/Face-Shields: At Zapata County ISD, all parents and visitors are required to wear a face-covering/mask while approaching staff or students and while in a district vehicle, premises/property, and inside district buildings. Staff and students are required to wear a face-covering/mask and face-shield/goggles while in district buildings.

Face-Coverings/Masks: Face-coverings/masks means a cloth, paper, or disposable face covering that covers the nose and the mouth, medical grade masks are not required. Face-coverings or masks:

  • Should cover the mouth and the nose;
  • Must be secured to minimize the need to adjust frequently;
  • Must be school/work-appropriate, non-offensive, not considered derogatory or disrespectful to others;
  • Should be worn prior to entering the building and kept on, unless the individual is alone/isolated from others.

Face-Shield

Face-shields provide a barrier to acutely-expelled aerosols of body fluids and are commonly used as an alternative to goggles. Face-shields should be worn but must be used with a mask or face-covering. The face-shield must be transparent. Students are responsible for bringing their face-shields/goggles daily.

Temperature Checks

Daily temperature checks at all schools/departments/facilities will be conducted for all students, staff, parents, and visitors. Students and employees feeling feverish throughout the day, will immediately be given a temperature check to determine whether they are symptomatic for COVID-19.

Temperature checks will be conducted using district-issued no-touch infrared thermometers on forehead only. Entry will not be permitted to anyone who does not receive a temperature check or receive 2 consecutive readings greater than or equal to 100° degrees

Temperature Checks for Staff

All employees will be required to have their temperature checked upon arrival.

  • Temperature must be checked prior to clocking in.
  • Temperature checks shall be conducted by the supervisor/administrator or designee at departments and at campuses by designated staff member(s).
  • For departments: department supervisors will have the discretion to stagger schedules to avoid overcrowding in areas.
  • If an employee experiences two temperatures greater than or equal to 100° degrees he/she shall be sent home. The employee supervisor shall inform the Human Resources Department.

  • Temperature checks will be done before entering the bus
  • Bus windows will be open to allow for air circulation, weather permitting.
  • Students shall disembark the bus upon arrival at school, in an orderly manner, and proceed immediately to the school building where designated staff will screen students for symptoms and temperatures.
