FAFSA vs TASFA

Free Application for Federal Student Aid-FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applies to any student seeking federal, state, or college financial aid for a degree or certificate program, including grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, enrolled in an eligible postsecondary institution, working toward a degree or certificate, maintaining satisfactory academic progress, and meet financial need requirements for most programs. There is no income limit for FAFSA eligibility.

Texas Application for State Financial Aid- TASFA

The TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid) is completed by Texas resident students who are ineligible for federal financial aid through the FAFSA, such as DACA or other undocumented students. It allows them to apply for state financial aid programs and in-state tuition, and requires proof of Texas residency to qualify.
